SO 2: Ignite fires as prescribed.
AC1: Legislative requirements:
Legislation: National; Provencal; Local; Regional
When to burn: Time- Just after the first 20-40 mm rain in the beginning of spring.
Moribund grass- Collected organic material.
Good ecological status – Need retrogressive succession to bring field into sub-climax stage.
When not to burn: Time- Winter not on Sandy or steep soil. The field is in poor ecological status-very dry areas.
To create fresh grazing: A bush ecourchment or morbid can be used.
AC2: Safe conditions:
Must have safety conditions for you and your people that help/ work with you.
Cool temperatures- Must not be to worm
Remove fuel
Must have escape routes for emergencies.
Let your neighbors know, when, where, and the plan on what you are doing.
Must have a buck up plan if something happens.
AC3: Correct understanding:
Must have team leaders. And a Fire – boss. He is not actively fighting the fire. He communicate and call for help or water or food and other team leaders also to check where the fire is going and what happens. There must be Igrite people that light the fire. The fire breaks needs to be in place. And Suppressors that is fire fighters that help with the fire.
AC4: Local optimal conditions:
Fire-break- minimum 7 m
1) Chemical
2) Mechanical/Physical
3) Biological
Block burn: Making sure that fire doesn’t start again.
Patch burn: Any shape or size.
Weather: Must check the weather.
There must be enough staff members to help out. Also other people to help out, if the other group as tired.
SO 3: Extinguish fires:
AC1: Explanation is given:
Extinguish a fire is given. When NOT:
When the length is too high.
If you’re in front of the fire and the flames is more than 1.2 m.
If it’s next to an open land.
If you don’t have the right equipment.
When TOO:
The length is not too high.
If the length of the front flame is not more than 1.2 m.
If it’s not near an open land.
If you don’t have too many equipment or people to help out.
AC2: Fire-suppression equipment and retardants:
Fire- suppression/Retardants: It is all the equipment that you need for making a fire dead. E.G. Fire water cans or flaps or sprays. You must check if it’s still usable to use and that it isn’t broken or leaking.
And you must know haw the equipment is working and how to use it properly.
Gel or Spreader (Surface tension).
AC3: Effective use is made- Techniques.
When burning back:
Back against the wind when set correctly the winds of the primary fires will suck the back fire inwards. When a fire comes to the front you must burn a fire in front of the other fire but the fire must go to the other fire to burn each other out.
AC4: Perform post-burn actions:
AC1: Fire risks
When fighting a fire – 3 escape routes minimum.
Rule of thumb: If the fire is higher than 3.5 m stop fighting it.
Also now when high fire season is: Winter (Mei-Aug) + (Hunting season)
Extinguish (NOT): When the length is too high. If you’re in front of the fire and flame height is more than 1.2m. If it’s next to an open land. If you don’t have the right equipment or enough people with knowledge.
AC2: A Contribution is made to a post mortem:
Post- Mortem: Harue (Racho) Back-Sack spray
Look at the: 1) Positives- Need it.
2) Points of improvement.
3) Lessons learnt – Must learn.
Monitoring: Actual post. Accurance of new fires. Accurance of spot fires.
Post – Burn: Making sure the fire doesn’t start again.
Must have an evaluation to know what happened and what did make the fire. Must follow up.
AC3) Follow-up:
Post burn- Making sure the fire doesn’t start again. Must organist if something went wrong, must follow up and learn why it happened or how. So that you can have a plan for the next fire hat can start there. Must search what happened. So after words if the fire is dead you must go and follow up the problem.
