Maps in conservation areas:

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Communicate directions to specific locations according to the requirements of the situation.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Routes and locations are described using clear and simple language.

If you talk to people you must give good directions to where they are going. And communicate effectively and give examples of symbols that they will see or will be near the location they are going. Talk  in their language or find someone to help you.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Clearly discernible reference points are used to communicate direction.

Give them examples of the location they are going. Like symbols near the location of what they will see to now they are there.    E.g. a big tree or a cattle grid.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

The terminology used to communicate direction is appropriate for the situation.

Talk to the people in their language and in detail or just normal so that they will have good information to now they will find their place. So it is important to tell people good information.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Appropriate routes are selected and described as it applies to the situation for which directions are provided.

Appropriate roads are selected and described in your communication to show people where they are going and it also depend on what kind of car they have and where they are going. E.g. A 4x4 road just for 4x4 cars and  normal roads for normal cars.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5

Alternative routes are identified and provided between two points on a map as it applies to the situation for which directions are communicated.

If you show people where they are going also show on a map so that they would not get lost and witch side it is, e.g. left or right. And also show what road it must be, because if they took a wrong road they will go on roads where they not supposed to go.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Find, orientate and navigate along a route to a specified destination.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

A range of features and navigational tools are used to find, orientate and navigate along a route.

If you show people where to go you can also give Features that is Natural: e.g. Celestial; Plant growth; Wind; Mountains; Pare lines; Roads; Beacons. Etc
Also: Orientation equipment: E.g. Compost; GPS; Fixed point; Beacons.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Read, interpret and use maps.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

An appropriate map type is selected as it applies to the terrain and the purpose for use.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Give your clients the best map of the farm that they can find the location very easy. Because if you give a bad map it can’t make the people confused, or they don’t know where prissily they are. So it is very important. E.g. Cadastral, relief, rode map, vegetation maps etc.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

The user is orientated to the map using compass points (such as true and magnetic north).
If you show your people the way to go, there is also a compass point on the map to show where the true north is. And if they are going to and use their own compass they want to see where they are going so the orientated must be right on the map.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Real locations, distances, areas and relative positions are identified through the use of map reading and interpretation of information.

On the map, there must be the right information, so that people wood now they are on the right path. And the right information must be the same on the map. Otherwise  you give the wrong information.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Map errors and shortcomings are identified and corrected in accordance with industry norms and standards.
If you give the wrong information on a map it will lead the people to the wrong way. So you must go and check on the map and look at it to see if everything is on the relative position in place on the map.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5

Contour lines are interpreted and explained in accordance with industry standards.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

A contour lines is where you go and look a specific animal, plant to see where this animal, plant grow and count it and draw a contour line to see how may at seasons grow where. To count everything.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4

Draw and/or create simple maps.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Simple maps are drawn to ensure that the relative positions of places and objects match the real situation for record purposes.

A good map must be draw and the relative position of places and objects match the real situation on record. So you must check in detail.  Must be marked good and draw nicely to understand what it is.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Where appropriate, a suitable scale is chosen, indicated and correctly applied.

You also give the scale on the map so that people can see how far +- they ride to get to the destination.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Symbols, conforming to conventional uses, or defined through a key or legend is used in the drawing and/or creating of simple maps.

Also give symbols and pictures on the map so that people can see how it looks like, and to help them to get to their destination. If we don’t put symbols in or coordination the map will be board and people may not find their destination.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Diagrams and models used in the drawing of maps depict the area and/or landform accurately to enable reading and interpretation by other users.

Can also give diagrams of maps so that people can see more precisely where they are or want to go. It is also enable reading and interpretation to other.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5

The drawing or creating of maps is concluded in a clear and neat manner to ensure that it contains all critical information as required by the situation.

So a map must be neat and attract people’s attention. It must also be in a clear and neat manner to ensure that it contains all critical information as required. And must have the right information, and the relative positions is in place of the map.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

Plot information on a map using symbols.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

A range of symbols and keys are used to mark specific areas in the operational environment.

So there are lots of symbols or keys you can use to mark specific areas in the operational environment.
E.g. Area surveys: e.g. Wetlands
        Treated: e.g. bulrush
       Incidents: e.g. Moralities
       Poaching: e.g. shot animals.
Damage causing animals: e.g. Giraffe breaks fences.
     Disease: e.g. Tick bite.
     Degraded/Eroded: e.g. Springbok flats
     Animal’s distribution: New grass grew.
Plants: e.g. Different plants you get.
H2o holes: e.g. where you put it.
Natural Features:  E.g. dam
 Fixed points for photography
Tracks; Rivers; Trails; Activity zone.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

The relevant information on the map is indicated accurately as per grid reference or co-ordinates.

It depends on which map you use. Then all the information must be on the map and at the right place. Then you can put it as per grid for more details and more on a specific place so that people can see more about a specific area, or a co-ordinates just to show how big Sondela is and where you can go and see where everything is.
