Identify and monitor local wildlife:

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Explain the purpose and state the principles of wildlife monitoring.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

A clear and concise explanation is given on the purpose of wildlife identification and monitoring activities.

Look and monitor the animals. Find any kind of animals. Get information about the animal and monitor the activities of the animals. E.g. what they do, eat. Where they go all day long.
.
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Appropriate methods of wildlife monitoring in the area of operation is listed and explained.

There are 3 main methods of monitoring in a area.
1)     Walk- Count game or plants. E.g. 2m from your right.
2)   Ride- Count specific animals or plants. Everybody look at right 2-4m from you.
Or road strip- or block form
3)    Flay- Flay in a grid form and the camera take pictures in grid forms.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Identify local plants and animal species including their sign, spoor and habitat.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Key local species in the operational area are identified by their common names.

When you do wildlife monitoring use the common name or the scientific name. But ask the people that go with you on which kind of name they prefer. Because if you use a name and the other don’t now they will count the wrong plant/animal. Or at game drives or so people what to know names and you must ask or give both so that they now.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Spoor of key species is recognised to ensure accurate monitoring.

You must know how a animals spoor is looking, so that you can know what kind of animal it is and how many there is, are they in groups or pares. Also to see how big they was or is there something wrong with an animal.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Simple keys are used to identify species.

Simple keys are used to identify a specie/s to know is it a Female or a Male. Also is it Ruminant or Non ruminant. Etc

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Habitats used by wildlife are identified and explained.

You must know the habitat of a specie and identify it and explain why it is there. So that you can know  why the specie is there.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Count the local plants and animals.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

An accurate count is made of key plant and animal species as it relates to the area of operation.

So that you can know where the animal come from and what their area is. Put it in a graphic to see how it will go.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

An explanation is given of the data gathering methods used for the counting of local plants and animals.

When you count game or plants you put it on a data method to see how it will go every year.
E.g. Plants – A strata graphics.
1: Height – on the ground until 2.5 m far.
Take a stick with you, to count.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

An accurate report is drafted and presented on the results obtained.

Put it all on a excel sheet, to let excel count it for you, you can also make a average or max or less etc.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4

Determine the locality of animals, plants and abiotic elements.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

A simple map is used to locate and record the location of animals and plants as per identified needs and organisational requirements.

Where you can find it at a map on a farm. Can use a GPS or fixed point.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

A report is prepared to describe relevant abiotic factors.
Must do a report on a farm to see if there is lots a- biotic factors on the farm for the animals.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

Record information on species observed.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Relevant information about local species is measured or recorded to promote effective wildlife monitoring.

Ten at the end you write everything down and put it in Excel to show the people in your work what you have, don’t have or not to many.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

A report that summarises the data collected is prepared and presented according to organisational requirements.

Then at the end you summaries it to give the important information to the people. And that you don’t have to give a long not so intresting speech or papers.
