Perform conservation guardianship

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 

Conduct patrols in order to collect and interpret information associated with Conservation Guardianship. 


ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 

Observation and listening posts are established in order to observe operational area(s) as it relates to patrolling and Conservation Guardianship requirements. 

Kike places where people sit or lay to see if anything is happening. Like a WANTIGE POINT.
There is 3 main posts:
1)      Observation post – Look what is happening where you must observe. You use your eye, senses and looking at things. E.g. a tower, in long grasses next to the fence where they cut.
2)      List post – Listening what the people say, or gun shots, or animal sounds that isn’t normal. You use your ears.
3)      Smell post – Smells that isn’t normal. You will use your nose.
All of this is uses you use to patrol.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 

Routine patrols are executed using appropriate formations to detect any illegal activity. 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 

Straight line, arrowhead, file, wedge, scorpion and single file.


If you patrol you must have routines to use for in case there is big/lost of poachers. There is lots of formations how to do it.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 

Information is gathered with regard to movement (illegal/legal) inside a conservation area. 

Gather information about what is legal and illegal. So you must know what is illegal to know what is legal. The securities must also know what to report.

Legal:

There must be rules given to people on the farms to help that nothing goes wrong. E.g.

·        Aunty poaching patrols
·        Security patrols
·        Security vehicles
·        Pre 22h00 e.g. staff; students; guest.

Illegal:

There must also be rules about what illegal is, to follow the rules, and that they would know what the rules are. E.g.


·        Post 22h00 driving of vehicles.
·        Driving or walking after 22h00
·        Unnatural occurrences.
·        Fences cuts.
·        Tracks: Suspects.
·        Vehicles – park on fence line.




ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 

Routine patrols are executed to locate, follow and identify high profile/threatened species within the operational area. 

You must know what the most important principles are on your farm, to help secure the animals/plants. So the high profile of your farm must be secure and protect.



ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 

Illegal activities are detected through the identification and finding of evidence as it applies to conservation guardianship. 
 Collect evidence of legal acts.
E.g.  If a security guard sees a fence that is loose, he must know that there is something that is happening. So he collects the evidence to let other guards know and the main security manager, so that they will take actions to patrol the aria. 


SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 

React appropriately within the law and according to established procedures, in order to counter any illegal activities. 


ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 

Suspects and witnesses are approached in a manner that ensures the safety of persons and the maintenance of full control of the situation. 

Safety is always first!
Stay in control of the situation because something can happen.
If you are alone and something big is happening call for back up.
Don’t be aggressive.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 

A suspect is disarmed and his/her weapons are made safe. 


The person must be disarmed.
Talk to the person – Calm him down and talk calmly. If he dint listen you can take the next step.
Make safety at end, if he had weapons.




ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 

Lawful arrests are carried out using minimum force. 

Arrest him in lawful manner and use minimal force. So if you arrest the person, do it nicely and not aggressively, but if he don’t wane work with take actions.



ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 

Suspects are questioned using techniques that optimize useful information gathering. 

Question the person in a useful way, to get information. Don’t ask questions that isn’t useful, talk nicely and professional.


 SO2:
1)      Enquire as to: HOW the person is; what their business is.
2)      You ID yourself/s * state your title
3)      Ask for documentation – Permit; Written approval.
4)      Disarm the person – Safety
5)      Arrest and record law, rights.
6)      State the seriousness off offence.
7)      Secure crime scene.
8)      Question the person.
9)      Contac police.
10)  Collect evidence.
11)  Open docket.
12)  Get – Case number – date, time, and place.
13)  Present evidence in court.


SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 

Collect evidence in order to be able to prosecute a suspect and present evidence in court of law.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 

The scene of a crime is secured according to standard operational procedures and requirements. 

Secure the scene of the crime. Because you wane protect the evidence that is laying there. And also for people to stay out and not thatch or walk there.



ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 

The appropriate collection techniques are utilised while preserving the chain of evidence. 


Collect the evidence that you found at the crime scene. So you must be like a professional.
You must know how to collect the items, not with bear hands.
Take lost of photos- also how to set the camera and the date and time must show.
Can also voice record or take video.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 

The extent of the offence and individual rights are explained to suspect/s as it applies to legal requirements. 

If you question the person, you must let the person know why he is there and what the charges is. Because if you don't tell him that he can sue you and then you will have a charge. 



ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 

Assist with the preparation of a docket according to operational and legal requirements. 


State everything that is happed. The date, time and where it happed must be on the photos or evidence. It must be in details.
 Then a case number is given with a date, time and place for the case.



ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 

Evidence is presented in court in a credible and consistent way. 

So know you have your evidence, know present your evidence in the law. The judge has the dock it where you wrote in detail what happened. So if the judge ask you something and it isn’t the same as in the file dock it he will rule against you, because you have falls information.



SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 

Apply appropriate communication techniques during the operation.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 

A variety of techniques is utilized to ensure the maintaining of communication as it applies to patrol ling. 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 

Hand signals, radio procedures, cell phones and geographic references, etc.
 
So there is lots of communications you can use, that is useful and safe.
Hand: silent and visual.
Radio: Reporting stations.
Cell phones: Vibrate or silent.
Geographic raff’s: A place where you know on the farm where the person is.
Maps and GPS: The position, using of a map, reporting and debriefing.



ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 

Appropriate report formats are used to present information to supervisors and other audiences. 

Report where/what /how you did it in detail. It is a whole format of what you did in a report. It must Also be in the correct format.




ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 

A verbal debrief is conducted with patrol members and other audiences as it applies to patrol and conservation guardianship operations. 

Positive spiral improves: You talk about the situation and what you can do to make it better the next time and who you can call. All of this will help you if the same thing will happen of a different one and you will know what to do.
